14. In the case of Family Remittances
Government
Servants, deductions from salaries would have been effected
up to and including November, 1941, (para. 5 (d) ). It
has, therefore, only been considered necessary to record
actual payments made to dependants on account of accrued
salary of a Government official as from December, 1941.
15. Similarly, it is assumed that recoveries in
respect of remittances made through official channels to
dependants of non-officials were effected by the Accountant-
General, Hong Kong, up to and including payments made in
Australia on the 1st December, 1941 (para 5 (e) ).
made prior to 1st January, 1942, are therefore not brought
into account, but the Accounts contain a concise record of
all payments made to this class of evacuee as from lst
January, 1942, whether in the nature of Recoverable
Advances, Maintenance Allowances or volunteer Allowances
&C., &c. as the case may be.
16.
Payments
Volunteer Allowances effective from 1st January,
1942, were not actually paid until June when any interim
payments in the nature of Maintenance Allowances or Advances
were, where possible, adjusted by recovery in calculation of
arrears due to the dependant.
17.
Examination of a personal Account will reveal
that, where necessary, a complete record of all payments
from public funds concerning each individual case will be
available at any given date to facilitate final adjustment.
18.
Medical Expenditure.
It is not possible to state how far medical
expenditure was recovered by the Hong Kong Treasury, but
copies of all statements showing full details of expenditure
authorised to be paid by the Commonwealth Sub-Treasuries on
account of the person normally responsible for maintenance
